HEAD COACHING POSITIONS
It is required that individuals who are 18 years or older and interested in coaching or volunteering their time with youth hockey must have at least one year of experience as an assistant coach with a previous SYHC team before they can be considered for a head coaching position.
Having one year of experience as an assistant coach before being considered for a head coaching position is crucial. It allows coaches to gain knowledge and practical experience in coaching techniques, player management, and team dynamics. This experience can help them become better equipped to handle the challenges that come with being a head coach. Additionally, having experience working with the organization for at least one year allows the coach to become familiar with the team, its culture, and its values. It also gives the organization an opportunity to evaluate the coach's ability to work with the team and determine if they are a good fit for the head coaching position. Overall, requiring one year of experience as an assistant coach helps ensure that the organization is selecting qualified and competent coaches to lead their youth hockey teams.
