About our Club

The Strongsville Youth Hockey Club (SYHC) is a not-for-profit hockey club open to all youth in Northeast Ohio. It is organized completely by volunteers, including the Board of Directors, Hockey Director, coaches, and committee members, per the rules estabished in our Bylaws and Code of Conduct. SYHC is the largest youth hockey club in Northern Ohio by number of teams, players, and coaching staff.

SYHC is a full member program of the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League (CSHL). SYHC follows the USA Hockey American Development Model (ADM) at all levels. Our club is one of only 24 USA Hockey Model Associations in the United States and the only one in the Mid-American District.

SYHC currently offers 8U (Mite Red, White, and Blue levels), 10U (Squirt), 12U (Peewee), and 14U (Bantam) programs and has over 250 players.

SYHC is organized to provide young people with an amateur hockey program implementing ADM principles in an engaging, safe and fun environment that maximizes skill development. SYHC recognizes a broad range of ability and commitment among its participants and strives to provide the appropriate level of instruction and competition to all.

In line with ADM, SYHC believes that placing skaters with similar desires and abilities together will provide the best experience for all participants, keep them engaged in the sport, and ultimately grow the game. Tryouts are conducted over multiple sessions by an independent group of experienced and qualified high school hockey coaches. Players are objectively evaluated in technical skill, development potential, attitude, and game performance.

SYHC skates out of OBM Arena in Strongsville, Ohio. The facility has two NHL-sized sheets, a studio rink, 12 locker rooms, meeting rooms, coaches/equipment areas dedicated to SYHC, weight-training facility, space for dryland training, pro shop, snack bar and gallery.

Our Philosophy

We understand that winning is important, and that everyone from our coaches to the players and parents wants to be competitive. But we also try to remember that winning a game is not the ultimate goal of youth sports or this club, but a means to an end. That end is the development of each and every player’s character, their sense of sportsmanship, their skill level and overall love and passion for the game.

Our program is designed so that players of all skill levels can enjoy the sport of hockey in a controlled, competitive, fun environment, while improving individual and team skills through practice and games.USA Hockey and SYHC believe that children who play with others of similar ability improve their individual skills and learn more about teamwork and the game of hockey.

Regardless of which program a player participates in, SYHC aims to create a hockey learning environment that develops not only the players but also the coaches and parents in the game of hockey.
