COVID-19 Protocols

OMICRON ADVISORY

JAN 1, 2022

WHAT'S CHANGED:

Omicron is extremely contagious. It seems everyone in our community will be exposed to this virus in the next couple of months. Based on the most recent data available, over the past 3 weeks, the 7-day case count in Cuyahoga County has gone from 5,584 to 18,453 and the positivity rate has gone from 17.7% to 35.7%. This puts Cuyahoga County as the county with the highest case count per 100K in the state.

WHAT TO DO:

Strongly consider wearing masks in the building and especially within the locker rooms. SYHC has a you-do-you policy concerning our home rink however mask usage for the next couple of weeks may help save your season by keeping your team healthy.

We have already seen an area rink close and pause at the end of December. In addition, several rinks never lifted their mask mandates. Continue to be flexible and respectful of others' rink rules. Mask requirements, spectator limits, and rink closures are a strong possibility, especially at City-operated facilities.

Stay home if you are starting to feel unwell or sick. Some data suggest that Omicron has a different symptom profile. Things we have come to rely on as telltale indicators of COVID, like loss of taste or smell, don't seem to be as prevalent or even present for a decent number of infected people. Skip a practice or game and help your team stay healthy.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

The current thinking is that the omicron wave will peak in Cuyahoga County in the next two weeks. If we take some simple steps, we set ourselves up to best keep our players healthy and on the ice.

Cuyahoga County Board of Health Guidence

We are currently seeing a rapid increase in the number of COVID-19 cases as well as intensified spread of the Delta variant in the region. Based on recent CDC research showing that vaccinated individuals can spread the disease if they become infected, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health is providing notice that it supports the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) guidance recommending the use of face masks while indoors and near others, regardless of vaccination status, in areas of substantial or high transmission, which now include Cuyahoga County. This guidance applies to all individuals 2 years of age and older.
