Introducing Corey Hicar

Corey Hicar began his hockey career playing youth hockey with the Parma Heights Wings Association and moved into the AAA Cleveland Lumberjacks. He played four years at St. Edward High School and then with the University of Dayton ACHA hockey team. During his playing career, he was also a USA Hockey official for almost 10 years. Hicar started coaching with Winterhurst at the Peewee level in 2013. While at Winterhurst, he also coached high school pre-post with Ohio Prospects for several seasons.

The 2019-2020 season will mark Hicar’s sixth season coaching high school hockey as the Head Coach of the Medina Hockey Club. During his time at Medina, Hicar started The Swarm, a pre-post HS hockey team, and was a founding member of the Great Lakes Pre-Post Hockey League. Hicar has spent the past two years assisting previous hockey director, Mike Bell, in various capacities including mite level liaison, assistant coach at the bantam level and a variety of other support roles.

Coach Hicar is very excited to be a part of the SYHC as the Hockey Director and looks forward to building on the work Mike Bell has accomplished over the past several years. He is a strong believer in the USA Hockey ADM and skill development and looks forward to working with our players and coaches so they can grow to their full potential and have fun while doing it!

The SYHC Board is excited to have Corey Hicar join us for the 2019-2020 season. Hicar will begin his role as Hockey Director when our fall season begins in late August. The Board would like to thank interim hockey director, Tom Cole, for his willingness to assist us through this transition period and all of his hard work.
