UPDATE 22-MARCH 2020
As you are probably aware, Ohio has moved to a shelter in place order beginning tomorrow night and lasting at least until Monday April 6th. Until we receive appropriate guidance from health authorities that events such as this are appropriate to reschedule, tryouts will be on hold. Tryout registration will remain open until we reach our limits at each level and we will update you all as soon as we have more information about future dates and times to proceed. Thank you for your continued understanding as we do our part to stay safe and flatten the curve.
UPDATE 13-MARCH 2020
I know you have been inundated with messaging about the current situation. We don’t want to be a part of inbox clutter, but I do want to let you know how we as a club are approaching this situation. This is an unprecedented event for all of us, certainly for me, as I try to figure out the best approach to keep our players, volunteers and families safe. I feel grateful that most of our teams were able to finish out their seasons without disruption. For those teams who have had tournaments cancelled for this weekend, I’m sorry your children’s (and your!) seasons ended so abruptly, but I’m grateful that all of our families will have the opportunity to take this time at home and keep their families safe and healthy without the pressures of having to decide to go to hockey or not.
Hockey is important, that fact may be the one thing that all 200+ families in this club can actually agree on! But nothing is more important than the safety and health of our most important asset, our children and their biggest fans. To that end we have made some choices that we believe will be in our best interests to encourage kids who need it to take this time to stay safe at home.
- We have canceled the two scheduled checking clinics on March 16 & 22
- We gave individual coaches who still have parent/player games scheduled the option to cancel those events. At this time, all coaches have opted to play those games. As always, if you feel an activity is not appropriate for your child, you can opt to keep them home. Please communicate with your coach about your scheduled event if you have questions or concerns.
At this time OBM remains open with a heightened attention to cleaning and disinfecting. We will update you if anything changes. As far as we know, their spring league will continue as scheduled. Please contact the rink directly for spring league related questions and concerns.
We hope that through the social distancing that has been put in place by local schools and workplaces that by April we can resume our regular schedule. At this point
our tryouts and evaluations will still commence on April 1st. Evaluation skates are scheduled April 1-3 and tryouts will be held April 7-9. If a change in schedule needs to occur, we will message all players registered for tryouts before that time. We will reevaluate the need to make any changes to these dates closer to the beginning of April.
Specific changes to placement exercises in response to COVID-19 can be found on the placements page. Please bookmark as this page for the latest information about tryouts:
As a reminder, please be sure to register your child for tryouts no later than this Sunday, March 15th. We will open registration on Monday morning to those skaters outside our club. At that point we cannot guarantee placement for all players.
If you have questions or concerns about tryouts or anything else, please don’t hesitate to ask.
